Exploring the Depths of Shadows

A black-and-white news article screenshot shows a crowded deck of the S.S. Beaverbrae ship, with overlaid text stating 'Bending the rules: How Canada opened its doors to Nazi war criminals.' The article details how post-WWII immigration policies, aided by faith groups, led to thousands of ethnic Germans, including some Nazi war criminals, settling in Canada with little screening. The image depicts immigrants disembarking at Quebec port, and the article notes the ship's history and the peaceful lives of some war criminals in places like Waterloo Region.
